Frequently Asked Questions:

Camp FAQs:

Where is Camp Woodhaven?
Camp Woodhaven is located at: 55 Campground Road West Boylston, MA. All mail needs to be sent to our post office box: P.O. Box 777 West Boylston, MA 01583.

What is a typical day at Camp Woodhaven?
Morning Extended Day beings at 7am and parents can drop off their children any time between 7am and 8:30am. At 8:30am regular campers are dismissed from the car line or arrive by bus. Children are greeted by staff, checked-into camp and directed to meet with their group and counselor. At 8:45am camp begins at Morning Assembly on the flag field where we raise the flag, sign camp songs and start our day together. Then there are three activity periods before lunch. The entire camp has lunch together in assigned eating areas. After lunch there are three more activity periods and Afternoon Assembly before camp ends at 4:30 and children are dismissed to their parents in car line, or ride the bus home with their camp counselors. From 4:30 to 6:00pm we have Afternoon Extended Day where children participate in another activity or go swimming.

What is the ratio of campers to staff?
The camper to staff ratio for 5/6 year-olds is 6:1, for 7/8 year-olds the ratio is 8:1, for 9/10 year-olds to ratio is 10:1, for 11/12 year-olds the ratio is 12:1.

What are the ages of the campers and how are they grouped together?
Campers are 5-12 years olds. Children are grouped together by ages. 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12.

Are your group’s coed?
Yes. Except for the younger children where we will try to give each counselor six boys or six girls to help facilitate bathroom breaks and changing at the pool.

Can you enroll anytime?
Yes.

If I had a medical from last year’s camp, can I use it?
Yes.

Do you provide lunch?
Children need to bring their own lunch and snacks or you can purchase lunch tickets. Lunch tickets can be ordered on our website, by email, by mail, or purchased at the camp office. Check out the lunch ticket order form for prices and menu.

Can you switch from one camp week to another?
Yes, if space is available.

Is there trained medical staff on site?
Yes we have at least one nurse on staff at all times.

What do the campers do if it’s raining or excessively hot?
We have indoor buildings and picnic pavilions for raining days. We have indoor program activities planned in advance for rainy days. For hot days, we have a large pool, slip-n-slide, cool-off zones and shaded pine groves and picnic pavilions for activities.

Can my child make a request to be in the same group as a friend?
Yes, this is available on the camper registration form.

My child is not a swimmer/strong swimmer. How will my child be supervised during pool time? Will my child have swimming lessons at camp?
We have four lifeguards on staff. Your child’s counselors are at the pool during swim time as watchers and to supervise changing in the pool house. We only have swimming in our 40’ x 70’ pool. On the low end there are steps going into 3’ of water. On Monday of each week of camp, all campers are swim tested by the lifeguards. Children who can demonstrate that they are swimmers are given an orange wristband, which gives them permission to swim beyond the buoys and the 3’ deep water. All non-swimmers are required to play on the steps or in 3’ of water. The camp has swim masks, goggles, kickboards, and noodles for the children to play with. The lifeguards will give the children informal swim lessons in the low end of the pool. But pool time is play time and is not a structured swim lesson. However, every year many children learn to swim at Camp Woodhaven.

Can I tour your facilities?
Yes. Give us a call at 508-835-9883 and we can schedule a tour at your convenience.

What is your Federal Tax ID number?

Medical FAQs:

At Camp Woodhaven, there is a nurse on staff to handle any medical issues. This page displays some of the frequently asked questions about your child and their health at camp.

These documents are part of the camper application and registration forms. All children must have these documents on file with the camp health office in order to attend camp.

Any time your child visits the health office for any reason, a note explaining the incident will be sent home in the campers backpack.

Camp Woodhaven is a peanut free campus. There are many children who have severe allergies to peanuts. Camp Woodhaven does not sell any nut products in the camp Trading Post. It is the camp policy that no peanut butter products are sent to camp with any campers for lunch or snacks. We know this is challenge for some families, but we ask you to make this sacrifice for the betterment of those campers with allergies.

As part of the camper’s daily schedule, group staff will take breaks throughout the day for campers to apply sunscreen or bug spray as needed. It is the policy of Camp Woodhaven that staff are not allowed to apply sunscreen to children without the written consent of the parents. If you would like your child’s counselor to apply sunscreen, please send an email permission note to paula@campwoodhaven.com.

In the case of your camper needing earplugs for a medical reason, the health office staff is available for applying them.

The camp does not have a camp Epipen to be used without written consent of a parent. If a child has a severe allergy or parents are concerned because of a strong family history, parents should send a doctor prescribed epipen to camp. All Epipens in the health office are documented prescriptions for specific children.

Medications can be administered by the health office staff only if they are sent in the original container and with a note of signed consent from the parent. All medications in the health office are kept under lock and key.

In the case of a tick being found on a camper, the health office staff will remove it completely with tweezers. The tick will be identified and sent home in a ziplock bag. Dog ticks don't usually carry Lyme's disease while Deer ticks are known to be carriers. Signs and Symptoms to be aware of:
  1. Small red bump also known as a Bull's Eye appearing within a few days to sometimes a month on the site of the bite.
  2. Flu-like symptoms such as fever, body aches, fatigue.
  3. More advance symptoms can develop into migratory joint pain and neurological problems.

Please have your child tested for Lyme disease by your primary care physician if any of these symptoms appear.

If your camper is a diabetic Type I or Type II, please be sure to send the equipment for their use such as a glucometers, lancet, an emergency glucagon, insulin and needles along with a doctor's order attached to their file.

Parents are welcome to provide any snack for their children such as OJ in case they are running low.
