Additional activities:

    Grouptime
There are usually two Grouptime blocks each week. The Monday morning Grouptime block is used to play get-to-know-you games and go over group/camp rules. The second Grouptime is for the group to decide the activity. Many times the group chooses unstructured play at the sand pit or playground.

    AM and PM Flag
Campers are active participants in the Opening and Closing flag ceremonies of each day. Each group takes a turn leading the ceremonies as color guard and song leaders of three camp songs of their choice.

Staff

Camp Woodhaven has an experienced staff as many members have been with us since they were young campers themselves. As managers, we hire two types of applicants. Primarily, we look for college age students who are education majors. These students are already focused on careers working with children. As they intern during the school year, they have their summers free to work at camp.

We also hire high school students who have attended our Counselor-in-Training program. Not only have they been mentored by older counselors to learn how to be counselors, but they have also often been campers themselves and can identify with the campers’ perspective. They love re-creating the same memories they treasure from their camp experiences.

Each year, the staff and program are enhanced by the presence of several teaching professionals. As part of the leadership team, they advise us on best practices for age appropriate activities, group management and discipline, and learning differences.

All staff members are CORI and SORI checked annually. Staff members also undergo 360° evaluations mid-summer. Management uses this feedback for continuing improvement and personal goal-setting for each staff member.

Staff Training occurs prior to camp. Elements of the staff training include CPR & First Aid certification, Heads Up concussion training from the CDC, Allergen Awareness, EPI Pen use, Disaster Planning, and other training targeting the physical, emotional, and social well-being of our participants.

Staff biographies are available on the “Download Forms” tab of the online forms section each year around June 15th when hiring for the new season is complete.
